Mr. Chan started tutoring me in IB Chemistry and Biology at the beginning of year 12 (the first year of the IB Diploma program) after I had started finding IB Chemistry difficult to master due to the sheer difficulty and complexity of certain concepts. In particular, I had trouble understanding abstract concepts related to quantitative Chemistry and atomic structure, mainly because I felt that they were not clearly and adequately taught at school by my teacher. However, after learning with Mr. Chan for just two lessons, all the gaps in my knowledge had closed and I quickly realized how proficient he is as an academic tutor. Mr. Chan’s high level of competence derives mainly from his unique ability to convey complex an abstract concepts in a way which is easy to understand. It also stems from his substantial background knowledge of the sciences, particularly Chemistry, which enables him to close any gaps in knowledge. His excellent teaching allowed me to achieve the highest score in my year group for both my year 12 and year 13 Chemistry mock exams. After encountering slight difficulty in IB Biology, Mr. Chan also started to tutor me in Biology as well which was also exceedingly useful. Other qualities which make Mr. Chan an excellent tutor are his passion for teaching and his friendly, patient and encouraging disposition. These qualities allowed me to thoroughly enjoy every lesson I had with Mr. Chan.
Because of his academic assistance, my predicted grade for both Chemistry and Biology was a level 7 our of a maximum 7 points and my total IB predicted grade is 43 to 45 out of a maximum of 45 points. I have utmost respect and gratitude towards Mr. Chan for helping me so much and highly recommend him as a Science and Mathematics tutor.

I strongly recommend Mr. Chan Chi-Lung, an academic tutor, who has not only successfully taught me how to overcome the difficulties of those subjects but also master exam techniques in order to find an efficient and successful way for individual revision. Mr. Chan began teaching me in early 2012 when I found myself failing to understand the two subjects, and decided to seek help from a tutor.
Mr. Chan would sometimes find interesting ways to convey the ideas, such as drawing them metaphorically or illustrating them onto hand-written diagrams. His way of teaching allowed me to grasp hold of the core models, which was deemed useful in the latter part of IB where these models were extended into further and higher studies.
Moreover, Mr. Chan firmly believes that diligence and frequent practices are clues to the success of studying Mathematics, and therefore he always reminded us on the importance of constant practices which would doubtlessly gear us up in facing the stressful exam with skill and confidence. Thanks to Mr. Chan’s motivation and insight, I was able to do Mathematics and complete the exercises quicker as well as easier than usual. To further reinforce my understanding and skill for achieving good grades, Mr. Chan constantly tested my exam techniques and time management by arranging repeated exercises on past papers, which in the long run proved extremely fruitful when doing our finals.
In the end, I must convey my gratitude to Mr. Chan again for his work, indispensable support and guidance without which, I would not be able to secure a predicted grade of 40 overall. Such grade was out of my expectation and my parents were also very satisfied with Mr. Chan’s performance as well.

Mr. Chan first started tutoring me near the end of 2009, focusing on Science (Chemistry, Physics and Biology) and Mathematics. As a student, I was never really interested in these subjects, nor was I particularly sensitive to numbers and statistics, therefore I found myself struggling with even really basic concepts.
Throughout the two and a half years of studying with Mr. Chan, I was able to firmly grasp various concepts that were foreign to me, and enabled me to better understand more abstract ideas. During the summer of 2009, Mr. Chan started pursuing more sophisticated concepts such as calculus and integration. Thinking back, it was an incredibly difficult two months; many a time I found myself struggling to even understand the explanation of calculus and its functions. However, Mr. Chan continued to assist me along the way, breaking down each separate section of the chapter and ensuring my progress. This proved to be incredibly beneficial during the latter part of the IB Diploma program, in which I was able to solve harder questions at ease, and also allowed me to become more comfortable with my competence as a Mathematics student. As part of the preparation process for my IB exams, Mr. Chan provided me with exam papers from years, which was incredibly helpful as I was able to test out my capabilities, and also troubleshoot any remaining problems I had with particular concepts. He also kept an organized database of past papers, which made the learning process much easier for me, as I was able to quickly access these papers.
As a teacher, Mr. Chan has the exceptional talent of explaining sophisticated concepts in simpler terms, something which not many teachers are capable of doing. He is also extremely patient, and constantly encourages me to strive for better results whenever I am distraught or frustrated by questions that I am unable to solve. Most importantly, Mr. Chan is able to provide me with support in terms of further consolidating my basic knowledge, and further expanding my understanding through pointing up small but important details that I have to pay attention to. This technique was beneficial for me while taking my IB exams, thanks to Mr. Chan I was able to attain good grades in Mathematics and Biology.
