Mr Chan first started tutoring me IB Chemistry Higher Level in the February of 2011. He was an extremely good teacher. Not only was he clear and concise, he was also able to teach in a manner that’s much more efficient than any of my other teachers. He is highly capable in explaining different theories and he would often mention addition and interesting side notes that would capture anyone’s interest. In that sense, I have learnt more about Chemistry that IB would ever teach me.
His passion as a tutor strokes me the hardest during the most intense time of my IB journey. He would allocate hours upon hours for, guiding me through past papers, providing invaluable exam tips and readily correct any mistakes I have made. It was during that time, that my Chemistry abilities have vastly improved. I can honestly say: if it was not for the dedication Mr. Chan have given, I wouldn’t be as confident in my exam; and certainly would not performed as well as I have. When the exams was given out and we had a thorough read on it before commencing writing, it was clear to me that all the hard work Mr. Chan had put into tutoring me paid off.
I have nothing but utmost respect and gratefulness for Mr. Chan and his character. Not only was he a brilliant teacher capable of describing even the hardest concepts to a student, but he was extremely well-prepared, dedicated and understanding. Words simply cannot express how much I admire him and recommend him as a teacher.

My daughter joined Brighten Youth Education Centre during her Primary years in Jan 2018. Mark has been her English tutor since then and he helps her History and Geography this year too. Mark has been a great teacher and he has taught Isabelle not only good English skills but also helped her build a very strong all-round foundation in English. He inspires her in many ways to make her love her studies in especially the English, History and Geography subjects.
My daughter is in her secondary school now, and so school life has become more challenging as there are more restrictions and higher expectations from the school for her overall skills such as interpersonal skills, organisation skills, time management skills, team work and of course on her academic performance.
So far, she has done very well and has received a few awards for her performances in the first and second terms. She has achieved very strong academic results in all her subjects and I am especially happy with her achieving a “perfect score” in English essay assessment and she has been ranked one of the top students for the Geography term assessment.
I need to say a big 'thank you' to Mark for all his help and support to my daughter. Mark has built up her confidence. He is a remarkable teacher who is always dedicated to and passionate about his teaching. I appreciate his efforts and contributions as a tutor as well as a teacher.

You always make my lessons interesting and I enjoy your innovative teaching.” “Mark is truly an astonishing teacher and I am very lucky to have him to teach me. His teaching urges me to enjoy studying English, History and Geography subjects. I wish to continue to have Mark as my tutor.”

During the past two years with Mr. Chan, he has clarified many misunderstandings of my Biology and Chemistry knowledge, which allowed me to gain a thorough understanding of the more difficult concepts and apply them correctly in the IB examinations. His experience in teaching the syllabi and familiarity of the syllabi are not only reflected in his teaching, but also the notes provided. They are concise and markscheme oriented, containing the important points needed to tackle the exams. Moreover, he is very patient, allowing me to comfortably ask questions and request repeated explanations. Mr. Chan has also provided detailed and effective rubric-based feedback on ways to improve my Biology and Chemistry IAs. Hence, all of this has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to achieve 7 in both Biology and Chemistry HL.
