I would like to take this opportunity to personally recommend Mr. Chi Lung Chan. I have studied Higher Level Chemistry and Higher Level Biology in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program with Mr. Chan since June 2013. Since then, my understanding and perspectives of these subjects have improved tremendously. His hard work and determination in making sure I achieve my potential is truly inspiring and his genuine interest in his students’ welfare is admirable.
At the end of the first year of IB, I was struggling to keep up with HL Chemistry and Biology, sciences being arguably one of the more rigorous and challenging courses on the IB program. That was when I started taking lessons with Mr. Chan once a week. His method of going through all the concepts again with me was incredibly useful as he explained in a way that was understandable to me. Also, his resources have been crucial in my learning and really shows his dedication to widening our (his students) sources of knowledge: from textbooks to past papers to his own condensed notes, these have been valuable source of information throughout the course. Finally, he has also provided a lot of help when coming to tackle exam questions, helping me to understand exactly what I need to write to get the points required. This and many other tips have really been able to save valuable time in my real exams and improve my exam technique.
My understandings and appreciation of these subjects have since been greatly enhanced. Within in just a few months of his lessons, I saw a marked increase in my performance. I was doing better in class tests, I was able to contribute more in class and I could finally help my fellow classmates understand complex ideas. Academically, I was also able to raise my University Predicated Grades (UPG) which would not have been possible without his constant support and help.
With the increase in my UPG I was able to apply to the better universities in the UK. I have now been offered a place at University College London and the University of Leeds to study Neuroscience which I hope to join in September.
I am extremely grateful for Mr. Chan’s guidance during this past one and a half years, without which I would not have been able to have been so successful taking on the IB. I am sure that Mr. Chan’s hard-work and patience will take him far and I wish Mr. Chan the very best of luck in any future teaching opportunities. I would strongly recommend him to anyone as a very capable tutor.

I am writing to recommend Mr Chan as your academic tutor. In Year 12 when I was studying Biology on my own without a tutor, I did not feel that I was struggling with the topics taught at school and I was confident sitting the AS exam. The result was not bad but it was below my expectation. Also, I foresaw that I may have difficulties meeting a standard medical offer in Hong Kong. Therefore, I have decided to seek help from a tutor.
Despite the fact that Mr Chan has only been my tutor for my last year at secondary school and I spent half the year in the UK, he has been of tremendous help for my A2 Biology study. He has consolidated my knowledge learnt in lessons at school every time I return from the UK through explaining it concisely and testing me by asking questions. When I felt that I have certain areas within the syllabus that I was not confident with, we would focus strictly on that topic until he made sure I understood it completely. Moreover, at times he would take a minute or so talking about something interesting outside the syllabus, making the lessons more enjoyable and inciting my interest in the subject.
To me Mr Chan is an extremely diligent and resourceful person. He has a large amount of past papers which is particularly useful during the revision period before examinations. This is because this large amount of resources allows me to practice and perfect my exam techniques. In previous years I have always lost a lot of marks due to exam techniques instead of being lack of knowledge. However, under his guidance the proportion of marks lost due to exam techniques has greatly reduced in my tests and mocks at school. He is one outstanding tutor that I would definitely recommend to you.
